Sniffer & Tinni: A True Tale of Amazing Animal Friendship by Berit Helberg

9781454918707-l

Sniffer and Tinni is a true story about a Red Fox and a German Shepherd, living in the small Norwegian town of Ski.  Tinni, the shepherd, was on a walk with her owner in a field at the edge of a forest.  Suddenly, she froze while a baby fox came up to her and then tackling her playfully.  At first, Tinni was not sure of this creature’s behavior with her, but, upon seeing the young fox regularly, Tinni began to enjoy the fun.  The owner, Torgeir, named the fox, Sniffer.  The two played together each day, chasing squirrels, wrestling, getting sticks, playing with a ball.  During the winters, when the pond was frozen, they would walk on the ice only to find their own reflections ever-so-intriguing (as in the cover photo).

As Sniffer grew, he stayed in the forest more and more, yet every once in a while, he would come back to the field where Sniffer and Tinni would play together.

Torgeir Berge is the photographer of the excellent real-life photos of the two animals playing and resting.

They have their own Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SnusenogTinni

One of many youtube videos shows just what fun these two enjoy:
